| The photographer's purpose when she embarked on this project was to
document the great traditions of festivals, patron saint celebrations, carnival and the other religious celebrations which with so much color
transmit the essence of our Puerto Rican culture. These picturesque occasions are the reflection and almanac of the identity of a people.
During the last two years, Paola Nogueras has participated and captured with her lens the celebrations of 48 carnivals, patron saint
celebrations, and festivals of Puerto Rico. "The capacity of the Puerto Rican people to immerse themselves in celebration is unique. With its
fiery sun, its beautiful beaches, sky, fields and culture, our people have in Puerto Rico the perfect ingredients to abandon their inhibitions
and celebrate without limits" says the Ponce born artist. "Be it for religious, cultural or musical reasons we know how to enjoy life and
in the process we spread our happiness to all those around us." The project effectively represents the emotion that our people feel during
their celebrations. The pride of the parents as they watch their daughter crowned queen of the town, the fear and anticipation of the
children waiting for the vejigantes, the inspiration provoked by the troubadours, the devotion inspired by our saints in the faithful and the pride we feel when we salute our flag. This project is a catalog of these experiences. "The only thing more exciting that being in the middle of these celebrations, invisible to those around me but capturing all the details with my camera, is to be able to share with my people the product of this adventure. This project is for Puerto Rico," concluded Nogueras. |

El proposito de la artista cuando se embarcó en este proyecto fue documentar a traves del medio fotográfico la gran tradición del festival, las fiestas patronales, el carnaval y las demas celebraciones religiosas que con tanto colorido transmiten la esencia de nuestra cultura puertorriqueña. Estas pintorescas ocasiones son, por asi decirlo, el reflejo y almanaque de la identidad de un pueblo. Por los ultimos dos años, Paola Nogueras ha participado y capturado con su lente la celebración de 48 carnavales, reinados, fiestas patronales y festivales de Puerto Rico. "La capacidad del puertorriqueño de enfrascarse en fiestas es única. Con su sol candente, sus hermosas playas, su cielo, sus campos y su cultura nuestra gente tiene en Puerto Rico los ingredientes perfectos para abandonar sus inhibiciones y celebrar sin limites" dice la artista natural del pueblo de Ponce. "Ya sea por razones religiosas, culturales o musicales nosotros sabemos gozar de la vida y en el proceso contagiar a todos a nuestro alrededor con nuestra alegría" continuo la artista. El proyecto recoge efectivamente la emotividad que carga nuestra gente durante sus celebraciones. El orgullo de los padres al ver a su hija coronada reina de un pueblo, el miedo y la anticipación de los niños en espera de los feroces vejigantes, la inspiración que nos provocan nuestros trovadores, la devoción que inspiran nuestros santos a los feligreses y el orgullo que sentimos al saludar nuestra bandera. Este proyecto es un catalogo de esas experiencias. "Lo único mas emocionante que haber estado en el centro de estas celebraciones, invisible a todos a mi alrededor pero capturando cada detalle con mi equipo, es poder compartir con mi pueblo el producto de esta aventura. Este proyecto es para Puerto Rico" concluyo Nogueras. |
