| The cultural festivals celebrate different customs, products and typical food from the towns of Puerto Rico. They generally have many elements in common such as the music, the artisans and typical food. In Maunabo participants enjoy the crabs both with racing and dining (first week in September). In Jayuya, during the Indian festival, visitors enjoy the cod fish with guanime. But the action there is the old taino games and the queen's coronation, where "taina" candidates wear dresses made with natural materials like the island's seeds and plant fibers. In Moca they honor mundillo (a lace like material) and several generations of talented seamstresses produce bibs, tableclothes, baby booties and other products. In Isabela, the festival of woven cloth (first week of May) includes not only the "mundillo" but other types of cloth works such as embroidery and crochet. Manati celebrates the "Los Tubos"beach festival where for three consecutive days in early July with the sea as a backdrop some of the best musical performers come to entertain the public. In Aibonito, where they celebrate the Festival of the Flowers (end of June) you can enjoy and purchase some of the most beautiful flowers and plants from the island. In February during the celebration of the end of the coffee harvest in Maricao, you can participate in the celebration of a typical "jibaro" mass where products from the town are part of the offering. When looking for a festival the options are as varied as the towns of the island. |

Los festivales culturales celebran diferentes quehaceres, productos y alimentos autóctonos de nuestros pueblos. Normalmente tienen elementos en común como lo son la música de talento local, los artesanos, la comida típica, los juegos y demás. En Maunabo, se disfruta de los jueyes (1era semana de septiembre), en Florida de la piña Lisa Cayena(1era semana de agosto). En Jayuya, durante su festival indígena, se saborea el bacalao con guanime. Pero la acción allí está en los juegos milenarios de los taínos y el reinado donde "las taínas" candidatas lucen vestimentas confeccionadas con materiales como semillas y fibras de plantas de Puerto Rico. En Moca le rinden tributo al mundillo, y allí varias generaciones de habilidosas tejedoras confeccionan con afán baberos, manteles, botines y otros productos. En Isabela, el festival del Tejido incluye no sólo el renombrado mundillo sino también el bordado y el crochet de los cuales se ofrecen talleres y exhibiciones. La playa de Manatí se viste de gala para celebrar el festival Playero de los Tubos donde por tres días consecutivos con el mar de fondo se dan cita nuestros mejores artistas para el deleite de los asistentes. En Aibonito, donde se celebra el Festival de las Flores (finales de junio), se puede disfrutar de y adquirir las flores y plantas ornamentales más bellas de la isla. En febrero durante la celebración del Acabe del Café en Maricao, se puede participar de la celebración de una misa jíbara típica con ofrendas de productos del pueblo. En fin en cuanto a los festivales se refiere las opciones son tan variadas como los pueblos de la isla. |
